Light cloud passing over the Moon; producing some rather spectacular Lunar Corona were caught on camera by Honor Wheeler on the 15th Dec 2024. One of Honor's images also made it to the front page on spaceweather.com😁 It was the last Full Moon of 2024 too and known as the 'Cold Moon'.
A huge congratulations to our member Janice McClean on becoming the new president of the British Astronomical Association (BAA). Her appointment was confirmed at the BAA’s AGM meeting on the 30th October 2024.

It was another sell-out and in-spite of heavy cloud, after the welcome, telescope guidance and night sky tour presentations we were so very lucky to have 30 minutes or so with gaps in the clouds. The public appeared to be very appreciative of a glimpse of the moon & Jupiter through a very wide range of scopes – Society Dob’s, member refractors and new-gen smart scopes.
Tea and comets followed the outside observing and we finished bang on time.
In all an extremely successful evening – we’re very grateful to the great many members who gave up their time (and possibly a romantic dinner) to support the event!

John Mason's lecture has now moved from the 29th June to the 13th of July 2023. As John Mason's JWST talk is our closing lecture for the season 2022/23, we would like to open it to all CMHASD members 😊 so do please join us.
Due to the John Mason lecture being moved to the 29th June, this Thursday is now an informal night. More information may follow.
We will be hosting an observing evening at Hall Place & Gardens on Wednesday 1st March 2023. We hope to offer the chance to see some planets, deep sky objects and close up views of the Moon through a variety of telescopes weather permitting. There will also be a comet making demonstration and some indoor presentations too.
This is a ticket event. Tickets are available to purchase from the Hall Place & Gardens website. Click on the link below.
