On Thursday 8th January 2015, we officially opened our new observatory called the Dick Chambers Sutton-at-Hone Observatory housing the Peter Hindle Telescope.  Many people attended the event including Dr. Peter Hindle who donated the 16″ Meade telescope that is housed in the observatory & the Mayor of Dartford Cllr. Avtar Sandhu MBE.

CMHASD members would like to say congratulations and thank you to Chairman Simon Dawes for such a successful evening.

Thanks must also go to Andy Barber and Steve Goldson (and others) for last minute touches to the observatory and for Andy making himself available at the last minute to show the local press the observatory and telescope early on Thursday.

Also a very big thank you to Dave Grist’s wife Lorrae for baking such a wonderful observatory cake which Chairman Simon Dawes dutifully cut.  Superb cake Thank You.

We think the late Dick Chambers would have been very proud.

Here’s to many years use of the Dick Chambers Sutton-at-Hone Observatory and the Peter Hindle Telescope.

Below are a selection of photos from that great night taken by members Steve Farley, Honor Wheeler, Gordon Collings, Tony Collins & John Howarth.
